NEW: High School Teacher

Part-Time

Posted 6 November 2025

The Small School (TSS) is a progressive, independent K–12 school in Murwillumbah, NSW. Established in 2019 with the introduction of our primary years, TSS has since grown into a dynamic learning community recognised for its innovative, child-centred approach. We are now a newly registered high school, having recently received registration through to Year 12, and will deliver Year 11 for the first time in 2026.

TSS is founded on a unique educational philosophy that values authentic relationships, student voice, and high levels of student involvement in all aspects of school life. Our model places wellbeing, belonging, and purposeful learning at the centre of everything we do.

We are a registered (non-accredited) high school, and our Senior Program follows a HSC-aligned pattern of study that meets NESA requirements, with a strong focus on portfolio-based assessment and the development of each student’s learner profile. This highly individualised approach will allow us to support a wide range of post-school pathways, including portfolio-based admission to university, vocational qualifications, and creative or entrepreneurial directions. Students will complete core subjects in English, Mathematics, and Psychology, alongside three electives selected from options such as Business Studies, Legal Studies, Ancient History, Design & Technology, and externally delivered Distance Education or VET courses.

Our teaching model blends:

  • Individualised learning plans tailored to each student’s goals and strengths;

  • A strong Advisory and mentorship framework providing ongoing academic and wellbeing support;

  • Project-based and inquiry learning integrated with flipped-classroom practice to encourage independence, collaboration, and deep engagement;

  • Backward-mapped curriculum design ensuring clear alignment with syllabus outcomes; and

  • Balanced assessment that values reflection, creativity, and growth alongside formal measures.

The program will emphasise student wellbeing through the Rites of Passage framework and will support multiple university and vocational pathways, helping students develop the confidence, independence, and purpose they need to thrive beyond school.

We are seeking a part-time high school teacher to join our growing team in 2026, teaching across a mix of Year 7–9 and Year 11 classes.

Experience in English and Business or Legal Studies is a priority, as these subjects will form part of the teaching load. We also welcome applicants with complementary expertise in Ancient History, Design and Technology, or CAPA, as final subject allocations will be shaped around the strengths of the successful candidate and the evolving needs of our Senior Program, with priority given to coverage of English and Business/Legal Studies.
